The William N. Copley Estate is pleased to announce a focused exhibition by Alden Projects that highlights Copley’s publishing venture, The Letter Edged in Black Press, which produced the groundbreaking serial publication S.M.S., (short for Shit Must Stop), in 1968. The exhibition is on view at Alden Projects through May 6, 2018.

Organized in association with the William N. Copley Estate, the exhibition takes a comprehensive look at the artist’s broader publishing activities alongside unique and rarely-seen artworks by contributors to S.M.S., such as On Kawara, Marcel Duchamp, Bruce Nauman, Dieter Roth and more. Archive material from the production of S.M.S., plus correspondence from invited artists, brings together an unprecedented survey of Copley’s lesser-known collaborative foray into artists publications.
