The Whitney Museum of American Art is currently presenting ‘An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940 – 2017’, and highlighted in the show is William N. Copley’s iconic contribution to the 1967 portfolio Artists and Writers Protest Against the War in Viet Nam.
Untitled (Think / Flag) is a monochromatic, silkscreened version of Copley’s American flag motif, which the artist started developing in 1961 and would employ in later works, including drawings, prints and editioned textiles.
